Pulsed Electric Field-Based Extraction of Total Polyphenols from Sideritis raiseri Using Hydroethanolic Mixtures

Polyphenols are an important class of compounds, due to their excellent antioxidant properties. Lately, much effort has been placed into developing new extraction techniques and optimizing them, so that polyphenols can be retrieved more efficiently from the plant materials. One most recent advances in is pulsed electric field (PEF). This technique environmentally friendly potential maximize recovery compounds tissues. Although efficiency PEF depends, among others, on nature solvent used, up date, there no reports optimization polyphenols, using hydroethanolic solutions varying content ethanol. In this study, three solutions, water, ethanol were used for PEF-based total Sideritis raiseri. Results conclusive 1:1 mixture water increase by 146% yield extract, highlighting need study extensively, future, mixtures solvents not just plain water.
